Bulgarian plant closures

Bulgarian plant closures
18 December 2009

Devnya Cement and Vulkan Cement of Bulgaria are to temporarily shut down all the kilns in two of their plants.

These moves are due to the impacts of the economic crisis on the Bulgarian construction industry, the group has announced.

Both producers reported a decline in demand of more than 40 per cent for 2009 compared to the previous year.

The planned suspension is expected to last the months of December 2009 and January 2010. During this period.

Devnya and Vulcan will continue grinding operations to meet customer needs. This is the third time this year the company has been forced to take such action. The kilns in the two plants were shut down in March and August. Devnya Cement and Vulkan Cement are part of the Italcimenti Group.
