Lafarge rail project wins award, UK
Lafarge Cement has won an award for its UK£20m rail infrastructure programme at its Hope Works in Derbyshire.
The Rail Freight Group’s national awards saw Lafarge win a Special Judges Award at the ceremony on last week.
The Hope Works rail upgrade has formed a central part of a major national scheme by Lafarge to strengthen the delivery service it offers to customers. By transforming Lafarge’s cement distribution facility, the project has increased the volume of cement transported via rail from Hope to 900,000 tonnes each year, while taking 6,800 lorry loads off the road and enhancing the sustainability of this major cement works.
Dave Burley, supply and distribution director at Lafarge Cement, said: "The Hope Rail Project would not have happened without the dedication of our land and planning, logistics, works and implementation teams, who were supported by a diverse group of people from across the wider business.
"Maximising the efficiencies of our delivery processes at a time when the industry is facing significant challenges is crucial; together, we have shown that sustainable business and commercial objectives can go hand in hand."
