Bayelsa State Government has said its involvement with Dangote Group on the sole distribution of cement in the state was with a view to reducing prices and promoting the building of affordable houses in the state.

Director General of the state’s Micro-Credit Administration Agency, Mr. Tom Owugha, said the claims by the opposition in the state that the state government’s partnership with the cement company was political was not only incorrect and misplaced, but also that the issue of quick and affordable prices of the product at the local levels was considered.

Speaking in Yenagoa at the presentation of certificates to the appointed cement dealers in the eight local government areas of the state, Mr. Owugha said the partnership with Dangote Group also covers the building of warehouses in the three senatorial districts of the state.

"The vision of the state governor for venturing into the cement business arrangement with Dangote is to ensure that Bayelsans, no matter the income level, have access to affordable cement at all times and in all parts of the state to enable them fulfill the dreams of owning their homes," Owugha said.

He urged the appointed cement dealers to log unto the vision of the state governor and ensure that cement got to the people in their respective council areas at affordable prices.

"We have designated Ogbia, Sagbama and Yenagoa, to serve the riverine communities as well as the procurement of boats to ease the transportation problems of the dealers," he added.
