Cement: Mexicans to invest in Nigeria?
15 September 2009

Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico, Chief Lawrence Nwuruku, has said cement producers in Mexico have completed arrangements to invest in the Nigerian economy and would soon be in the country to seal the deal on the issue.

In an on-line message from Mexico to Vanguard in Port Harcourt, Monday, Nwuruku said the manufacturers were thrilled by the abundance of minerals for cement production in Nigeria, hence their readiness to hit the market.

Consequent upon the arrangement, he said some food processing companies in Mexico have also expressed readiness to take advantage of the vast agricultural potentials in Nigeria.

“As an envoy, my interest is in Nigeria exploring the Mexican technological know-how and expertise in the fields of construction, food processing and cement production,’’ Nwuruku said.

He said no individual state had been given preferential treatment in the arrangement, explaining that “the investors would be guided by information on the availability of raw materials before deciding on where to invest.”

He said Mexican President, Felipe Calderon, had recently expressed his willingness to strengthen the pending Nigerian/Mexican Bilateral Economic Commission which was initiated by former presidents of Nigeria and Mexico in 2005.
