Romania’s 1H cement production down 28.8% YoY

Romania’s cement production dropped by 28.8% in the first semester, at 3.5Mt, from 4.9Mt in the similar period a year earlier, the quantity being delivered exclusively on the local market, according to the cement companies’ association CIROM.

The production of clinker stood at 2.6Mt in the January-June period, down 27% from 3.6 Mt in the same period a year ago.

The sales volume of cement and clinker totaled 3.59Mt in the analysed period, down around 31% from 5.2Mt in the first six months of 2008.

According to CIROM’s data, Romania did not export cement or clinker in the first quarter, after selling 109,372t in the same period of 2008.
