Cimpor plans to invest EUR120m in Mozambique, the majority of which will be channelled into a new cement plant, Portugal’s Diário Económico newspaper reported.

According to a spokesperson from the Portuguese cement company, cited by the newspaper, the new Cimpor factory will be located in the Dondo district, on the outskirts of the city of Beira, in Sofala province, and will be “an investment that will provide an adequate response to demand, without recourse to imports, which will greatly benefit Cimpor’s profitability in this area."

In Mozambique, where Cimpor has been operating since 1994, the company currently has a production capacity of cement of 0.7Mta, mainly from its factory in Matola, Maputo province.
