India: Himacha Pradesh  to expedite Gumma Cement plant construction

The Himachal Pradesh Government has issued directions to India Cement Limited to begin the construction work of Gumma cement plant so that it could become operational in its scheduled time.

Himachal Pradesh Industry Minister Kishan Kapoor, while replying to a query of Mr Vipin Singh Parmar (BJP) during the Question Hours today said the state government has signed an MOU with Chennai-based India Cement limited on May 11, 2006.

He said state Chief Secretary Asha Swroop had held a meeting with company officials recently and reviewed steps being taken by the company to begin the work to build the cement plant.

He said the state government has directed the firm that the cement plant should be ready in stipulated time period mentioned in the MoU.

Mr Kapoor said the company would set grinding plant at Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district. He said the company has deposited INR 2 crore (US$410,585) according to the MoU.

He said the cement plant would have the capacity to extract 2Mta, which would be converted into cement at grinding units. The Minister said the state government has made it mandatory in the MoU that the company should convert half of the clinker into cement within the state.

He said the proper rehabilitation work would be started in the project cites soon after the company would initiate the work on the plant.
