Buzzi Unicem USA cement plant in Pryor to lay off 20-30 employees, citing economy
Officials at a cement plant near Pryor say about 20 to 30 employees will be laid off.
Dave Puzan, the plant manager at Buzzi Unicem USA’s facility in Mayes County, said Friday the plant will maintain a one-kiln operation because of the downturn in the economy and construction market.
He says the layoffs will begin on June 29 and will affect some of the plant’s 91 hourly workers.
Puzan says he hopes the layoffs will be temporary and that he wants to be able to recall the workers if business improves, but that he doesn’t expect that to happen until next year.
He says the plant has downsized this year from three production lines to one.
