Spanish cement producer Cementos Portland Valderrivas has chosen three sites to construct wind farms with a combined capacity of 50MW in line with its strategic plan until 2011, the company said on Monday.

The wind power plants will cost about EUR 40m.

The chosen sites are near the company’s plants in Mataporquera, northern Cantabria region, Alcala de Guadaira in southern Seville region and El Alto in Madrid.

Portland’s parent company  – construction and services group FCC, bought in 2008 the wind energy portfolio of Australian sector company Babcock & Brown Wind Partners (BBW) in Spain for EUR190m, plus the assumption of EUR 590m in gross debt.
