Jordan Govt agency to import cement if shortage continues
22 May 2009

Jordan’s state-run Civil Service Consumer Corp, or CSCC, said it is ready to import cement if the domestic market continues to suffer from shortages and high prices, Jordan’s official news agency Petra reports Wednesday.

When the Jordanian market was undergoing similar cement shortages two years ago the CSCC contracted a local cement company to ensure supply to the market at flat prices, the news agency reports citing Mahmoud Abu Hazim, director general of the CSCC.

Jordan Lafarge Cement Factories Co  said in an earlier statement that the deficit in cement supply on the domestic market is estimated at 1500tpd due to the abrupt rise in demand during the past three weeks, Petra reports.
