India adds 8Mt of capacity in April

Cement companies have added nearly 8Mt capacity in April, taking the total installed level to 219Mt.

According to the Cement Manufacturers’ Association, the UltraTech/Grasim combine led the way with 4.5Mt, followed by Dalmia Cements with 2Mt and India Cements with 1.1Mt.

Mr Rajan Kumar, Research Analyst, Centrum Broking, said another 9.3Mt are expected to be added between May and June, with expansion at Kesoram (1.7Mt), JK Cements (3Mt), Orient Paper & Industries (1.6Mt) and Deccan Cements and Murli Industries (3Mt).

Madras Cements and Chettinad Cements, which announced expansion of 2Mt each in March, have ramped up capacity utilisation at their plants to 60 per cent in April, he added.
