India: cement production, exports up
The Cement Manufacturers’ Association, apex body of cement- makers in India, has released figures for March, triggering significant appreciation of cement stocks.
The figures say cement production in the month was 18.1Mt from the 16.39Mt in March 2008, an increase of 10.43 per cent.
The figures for cement dispatches are 18.12Mt and 16.42Mt.
During the past month, cement exports were of 0.35Mt, an increase of 9.38 per cent from the previous March’s 0.32Mt.
The figures for March are in keeping with growth trend seen in February, January, December and November. Industry observers expect the trend to continue in this quarter.
