House bill filed to delay Titan cement plant, US

North Carolina Rep. Sandra Spaulding Hughes filed a bill seeking to delay permits for the Titan America cement plant, according to local press reports.

The bill Hughes filed Thursday in the state House is identical to the bill filed in the Senate in March by Sen. Julia Boseman, a New Hanover Democrat.

Both bills seek to delay all permits for cement plants until September 2010 and call for a commission to study the environmental and public health effects of cement plants.

The bill would delay any cement plant, but Titan’s facility is the only one planned.
