Vietnam Cement Corp to operate four projects this year

The Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) is trying to operate four large cement projects with a combined capacity of 6.8Mt this year, the Vietnam News Agency reported, citing the Vicem’s sources.

Under the schedule, Hoang Thach cement plant’s production line 3 with yearly capacity of 1.2Mt of clinker will be put in use in the third quarter.

But Son plant’s production line 2 with an annual capacity of 1.6Mt of cement, Bim Son expanded plant and Binh Phuoc plant with yearly capacity of 2Mt of cement each will start operation in the fourth quarter.

The corporation is also speeding up works to operate cement grind stations in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 9, Long An and Quang Tri provinces in the second quarter of this year.

With upcoming operations, total production capacity of Vicem-run cement plants will reach 21Mt by late 2009, up 2Mt against 2008.
