Nepal cement producer halts production
13 March 2009

Udaypur Cement, Nepal’s largest cement producer, has halted its production for the last six.

The country’s largest cement factory is incurring a staggering loss of Rs 4.5m to Rs 5m per day due to crippling power shortage. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is supplying power from just 4am to 11am despite its promise to provide 10 MW of electricity to the factory round the clock.

The factory is totally bereft of electricity on Thursdays and Fridays.
