India’s largest cement maker by capacity, may increase product prices in 2-3 months after having raised them by INR3 per 50kg bag last week, said a senior company executive.

"We raised prices last week, as demand is very good now," J. Datta Gupta, chief commercial officer, said late Tuesday. "We expect demand to remain good until May-June."

Cement companies were struggling with strained demand until the end of last year from the real estate and housing sectors, which have been hurt by a slowing domestic economy and credit crunch.

But analysts said the current improvement in cement sales isn’t a reflection of a revival in demand but more a factor of a lower base last year.
