Iran produced 34.658Mt of cement in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 19-Dec. 20, 2008), showing a 14-per cent rise compared with the corresponding figure of last year.

The country’s cement output in the nine-month period exceeded the figure projected in the Fourth Development Plan (2005-10), the Ministry of Industries and Mines said in a fax sent to Iran Daily.

From Nov. 21 to Dec. 20, the sector also produced 3.3Mt of cement.

Prices of houses and construction materials continue to fall throughout the nation, in some cities such as Tehran experiencing more than a 20-pe rcent drop.

The price drop in house and construction materials is expected to continue until March 20.

During the first six months of the year, fewer houses were bought and sold. In many cases, real estate agents had to slash prices in order to attract first-time home-buyers.

Experts say the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been successful in stabilizing the housing market.
