Construction is due to start on the planned cement factory in Sukolilo district, Pati regency, after Central Java Governor Bibit Waluyo said the environmental impact analysis (Amdal) report has been issued.

Bibit said Tuesday that the Amdal report was issued by the Environmental Research Center at the Diponegoro University. The cement factory will be built by state-owned cement maker PT Semen Gresik.

"If the Amdal report says it (the plan) is feasible, then there is no problem with the plan to construct the cement factory," he told the Central Java Provincial Legislative Council.

"I would personally reject the plan if the Amdal report says it is not feasible."

Bibit promised he would visit Pati soon and explain the debate over the cement factory to local officials and residents.

"The cement factory will bring prosperity to residents, therefore the provincial council should support the plan," he said.
