Iran’s Cement Industry Reaches Self-Sufficiency
30 December 2008

Iran is now self-sufficient not only in cement production but also in constructing and commissioning cement factories, Industries and Mines Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian said. He made the remarks in a ceremony on Sunday to inaugurate the second production line of Hegmataneh Cement Plant in the city of Razan, Hamedan Province. Ali Akbar Mehrabian added that the project will increase the annual domestic cement output to 55 million tonnes, MNA reported. He also predicted that by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2009) the figure will hit 64 million tonnes through putting some other cement production plants into operation.

Pointing to the annual 8Mt rise in Iran’s cement production in the last three years, Mehrabian predicted the country’s cement production capacity will exceed 110Mt in 2012. He highlighted Iran’s industrial progress and said for launching a cement plant all required equipment and services are available within the country, which shows the Iranian know-how in this field. The minister also expressed hope to export cement to other countries.
