Unabated fall in cement sales leads to price dip
17 December 2008

Continuous fall in local cement sales compelled the manufacturers to reduce the price of cement by Rs 10 to Rs 15 per 50 kg bag in the local market, sources said.

Local cement sales have depicted a decline of 16 percent to 7.95 million tonnes during first five months (Jul-Nov) FY09, according to the provisional numbers for November 2008.

Uncertain political and economic conditions continue to hamper infrastructure as well as private sector development projects in the country resulting in local cement sales to bear the brunt.

Falcon, Pakland and Lucky cement have reduced the prices in the range of Rs 10 to Rs 15 per 50 kg bag. Now a bag is being sold around Rs 350 to Rs 355 as compared to Rs 360 to Rs 365 previously, sources said.
