Ashaka Cement to boost MDG target on housing
18 November 2008

Ashaka Cement Plc is committed to enhancing the realisation of he Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) target on housing by making cement available at affordable cost.

General Manager, Ashaka Cem, Engr Mustapha Mohammed Daggash, declared however that the only way the company would help alleviate people’s housing burden was to develop alternative sources of power to make for a cheaper cost of production and hitch-free power supply in the production plant.

Daggash asserted that in order to realise the objective, management has lined-up over N4.5bn for the construction of two mill coal projects to augment electric power supply to the company which had become grossly inadequate due to increasing demands on products.

He noted that already, N1.45bn has been spent on the procurement and installation of two giant generators, generating 12MW of electricity in addition to the existing alternate power plants.
