Spanish cement consumption falls

Cement consumption in Spain fell in September by 24.7 per cent compared with the same month in 2007, the steepest drop so far this year. Over the first nine months of 2008, the decrease was 19 per cent YoY, with cement use totalling 34.6Mt.

In response, cement production in Spain has also plummeted. The amount of cement made in the country between January and September was 18 per cent less than during the same period last year. The data come from Oficemen, the Spanish association of cement producers.
