Sri Lanka producers urge government allow price hikes

Four main cement suppliers of Sri Lanka urged the government to allow them to raise price of cement with effect from next month.

Cement companies have pointed out that with the escalating world prices they cannot sell the cement at the current market price in the country.

According to the sources in Consumer Affairs Authority the discussions are currently underway in the price control unit regarding the proposal made by the.

However, the cement companies have not mentioned the exact amount of proposed price hike, sources said.

A 50 kg bag of cement currently sells around Rs. 750 in the Sri Lanka market and some importers have suspended importing due to lack of profits.
