BUA Cement 1 Begins Production, Nigeria
08 September 2008

In its continuous bid to support government vision to become self-sufficient in cement production, BUA Cement I; a Floating Cement Terminal, acquired recently by BUA International Limited has commenced the production and delivery of quality cement in Lagos.

Announcing the commencement of a hitch-free operation in Lagos, the Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Abdulsalmad Isiaku Rabiu, disclosed that BUA group decided to introduce a Floating cement terminal named "BUA cement I" because it takes a minimum of two years to build a cement terminal which he noted would delay the Federal Government move to stem the persistent rise in the cost of cement across the country.

He maintained that Nigerians pay the highest price for cement in the world, a situation he blamed on cement manufacturers in the country who deliberately hike price to the detriment of fellow Nigerians adding that BUA Cement was out to salvage the situation and had pegged the price of cement at one thousand three hundred per bag, as well as making plans to further reduce it in few weeks to come.

He advised other cement manufacturers in the country to bring down the price of cement rather than blackmailing others for coming to alleviate the pains of the masses who have been groaning under the high cost of cement in Nigeria.

The vessel which has already started with the production of 3,000t of cement daily, has a storage capacity of 40,000t and is equipped with a siwertel ship un-loader capable of receiving cement at a rate of 800tph and can move from one location to another depending on market demand.
