Indonesian cement consumption up

Cement consumption has shot up in Indonesia this year, prompting producers to revise up their sales growth target to 15 per cent this year from six per cent set earlier.

Domestic consumption of cement rose 19.4 per cent to 22.31Mt in the first seven months of this year from 18.68Mt in the same period last year, the Association of Cement Producers (ASI) said.

The growth might slowed in the last quarter of this year because of the long holidays with the Idul Fitri, Christmas and new year celebrations, the newspaper Bisnis Indonesia said quoting ASI.

ASI chairman Urip Timuryono said consumption this year is forecast to scale up to 36Mt from 32.06Mt last year.
