Andhra to account for 40% cement production in three years

With 14 new cement plants in the pipeline and 24 existing ones in the process of expanding capacity, Andhra Pradesh will account for over 40 per cent of the country’s cement production in three years, up from about 12 per cent now.
 
The new plants, which are sinking Rs 9,000 crore as investment, will add 35Mta of capacity, while the brownfield projects will add another 28Mt. That will take the total capacity in the state to 87.5Mt a year, a sharp rise from the current 24.5Mt.
 
In 2006-07, the total cement production in the country was 138.27Mt, which rose to 198Mt in 2007-08.
