19 June 2008

Saudi Arabia’s total cement output is expected to rise to 43.6Mt in 2008 and 49Mt in 2009, according to a report of local BMG Financial Advisors). The figure stood at 31Mt in 2007.

The forecast is based on the current construction boom in Saudi Arabia which is pushing demand up.

Local consumption, which rose 8.4 per cent YoY to 26.8Mt in 2007, is expected to mark a significant increase in the next few years, the report said without providing exact figures.

Cement exports formed 12 per cent of all sales in 2007 and are projected to fall as producers will focus on the local market to meet the increasing demand.
