28 May 2008

Vietnam will produce at least 50Mt of cement in 2010 to meet the domestic demand, according to local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times on Wednesday.

Cement producers in Vietnam churned out roughly 15.9Mt of the product between January and May, the newspaper quoted statistics from the country’s Construction Ministry. Vietnam consumed nearly 16.1Mt of cement in the five-month period.

The country is estimated to consume 40-41Mt of cement in 2008, up around 14 per cent against 2007. Ten new cement plants with combined annual capacity of nearly 12.3Mt are scheduled to become operational this year.
