Saudi Northern Region Cement to build plant in Jordan

Saudi cement producer Northern Region Cement Co will invest SAR250m (US$66.7m) in the construction of a cement plant in Jordan, the company said on May 13, 2008.
 
The plant will cover an area of 200,000m2 east of the capital Amman, and will have an annual output of 1Mt. Construction works on the project have already begun.
 
According to managing director Saud al-Oraifi, China National Building Material Group Corporation (CNBM) has been assigned as the project’s main contractor.
 
The Jordan plant will sell the bulk of its production locally.
 
Northern Region Cement Co was established in 2006 and has a capital of SAR1.2bn (US$320m). It launched its first plant in 2007, near Ar’ar, northern Saudi Arabia, with a daily capacity of 6000t.
 
Currently, there are eight listed cement companies in Saudi Arabia - Saudi Cement, Yanbu Cement, Yamama Cement, Eastern Province Cement, Arabian Cement, Southern Province Cement, Tabuk Cement and Qassim Cement.
