Bulk carrier conversion specifies MacGREGOR cement-handling system
At the beginning of April, Indonesian shipping company PT Rimba Segara Lines ordered a Nordströms cement-handling system from MacGREGOR – which is part of the Cargotec Corporation. The system will be installed on a 7500dwt converted bulk carrier belonging to the Jakarta-based company, and this ship will eventually trade in Indonesia and abroad handling bulk cement.
The new system will maintain mechanical loading of 750tph and pneumatic loading direct from eight tank trucks. It will be able to mechanically discharge at a rate of 500tph and has a pneumatic unloading capacity of 2 x 300tph.
“The customer visited one of MacGREGOR’s earlier deliveries, Tokyo Cement’s 17,500dwt converted bulker Tabernacle Prince, and was very impressed,” says Patrik Wilén, product and sales manager for self-unloading systems in MacGREGOR’s Bulk Handling division. “Rimba Segara Lines decided that it wanted the same type of system on its own vessel.
“The company chose MacGREGOR because of our references and the performance of Tabernacle Prince. The main advantages of this system are its low power consumption, high loading and unloading rates, its proven performance, and – because it is fully enclosed – there is no harmful pollution to the environment.”
The system will be built by MacGREGOR’s Bulk Handling division in Enköping, Sweden, and installed on the vessel at a shipyard in Indonesia. Delivery of the system is planned during the autumn of 2008 to the shipyard and the vessel will be in operation early in 2009. Published under Cement News
