Pakistan cement sales and exports rise
31 March 2008

Pakistan’s monthly cement sales and exports reached 2.61Mt and 726,000t respectively.

The record sale of cement was marked on the back of record-breaking exports of 726,000t (previous record was 645,000t in February 2008) and 1.9Mt local sales (also close to its record for a single month), a report prepared by JS Capital Research said. The sales of cement during March 2008 had already broken the previous monthly record of 2.56Mt (November 2007) to reach at 2.61Mt by the March 25, 2008.

However, cement manufacturers estimated that the total sales for March 2008 would reach 3.2Mt including local sales of 2.3Mt and exports of 903,000t.

Keeping in view the first 25-day sales of March 2008, the total cement sales in March 2008 are expected to reach at 3.2Mt. This would translate into a significant growth of 42 per cent on YoY basis and 30 per cent on month-on-month basis.

Exports, which have already broken the monthly record of 645,000t set in Feb 2008, are believed to exceed 900,000t registering a whopping growth of 143 percent on YoY basis and 40 percent on month-on-month basis. While local sales, which made a record of 2Mt in November 2007 are likely to reach at 2.3Mt in March 2008.
