Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) is set to boost capacity by commissioning two cement kilns – in April and June of this year.

The two cement kilns will have a combined capacity of 5500tpd of cement, QNCC said in a report submitted to its annual general assembly here yesterday.

The QR800mn plant, QNCC’s fourth, which comprises the two kilns at Umm Bab, will be fully completed in the first half of 2009. QNCC is in a deal with FCB of France to set up the state-of-the-art plant.

The expansion will help QNCC produce 4.7Mta by 2009, company chairman Salem Butti al-Naimi said.

The expansion will see the company being able to produce clinker at the rate of 12,000tpd, he said.

Giving a project (plant four) update he said most of the civil works at the site had been completed. The erection of equipment is fast progressing.

Al-Naimi said the company’s production of ordinary portland cement (OPC) and sulphur resistant cement (SRC) totalled 2.4Mt in 2007, compared to 2.2Mt in 2006. The production of washed sand increased to 5.9Mt in 2007 compared to 3.2Mt in 2006.
