More focus on cement expansion
18 February 2008

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on February 18 urged central Thanh Hoa Province to speed up the construction of cement plants to make itself a large cement production centre in Vietnam. The PM made the recommendation while working with local authorities on socio-economic development measures for 2008, following his field-trip to the Nghi Son Economic Zone, the Nghi Son Port and the Cong Thanh Cement Plant

Thanh Hoa is currently home to two large cement plants, namely Bim Son and Nghi Son, which are running production lines with capacities of 2.15Mt and 1.8Mt per year, respectively. Both are carrying out projects to double their capacity in the near future.

The government leader also requested that the province focus on improving its investment environment to mobilise and make full use of all resources to ensure high and sustainable economic growths. He also asked the local authorities to pay more attention to increasing living conditions for local people, as the rate of poor households in the locality is reported as high as at 27.2 percent.
