Indocement clarifies waste position
30 January 2008

PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk. (Indocement), wishes to clarify the allegation noted in the local Jakarta Press that our company has violated environmental laws by running a dangerous waste removal business without the requisite technology.

Indocement’s receiving, handling and burning of waste is carried out under strict supervision and in full compliance with Indonesian regulations as well as international practices.

Cement kilns are widely used for a large range of waste and hazardous waste in several countries (Europe, US, Japan etc.) – due to favorable burning Conditions, environmental benefits compared with present waste disposal practice as well as to offer a cost effective solution for waste generators.

In order to ensure compliance with the relevant regulations, Indocement has engaged the Bandung Institute of Technology and the European Cement Research Academy to carry out emission measurements with and without the use of waste. All measurements confirm findings from other countries, namely that
cement kilns are ideal for burning waste materials.
