TNCC Chief welcomes TN Govt’s decision to import cement
28 January 2008

TNCC President M Krishnasamy today welcomed the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to offer imported cement at Rs 160 a bag, on high seas, to builders and general public.

Stating he had made a request to this effect last week, Mr Krishnasamy, in a statement here, thanked Chief Minister M Karunandhi for conceding his demand.

However, the general public who required 100 to 200 bags of cement, would find it difficult to purchase the minimum quantity of 480 bags fixed by the government and urged the Chief Minister to reconsider the norm.

Builders and contractors would be in a position to purchase the minimum quantity of 480 bags, but not common people, he said.

The state government, last night, announced builders, contractors and those engaged in construction industry could avail imported cement at the rate of Rs 160 per bag on high seas from Chennai and Tuticorin Ports.

The  Tamil Nadu Cement Corporation (TANCEM) was importing cement after the Chief Minister initiated steps to bring down the prices of the commodity.
