Finland: Shortage of cement causes plant stoppages
13 November 2007

In spite of promises by Finnish cement producer Finnsementti, the shortage of cement has not eased in Finland. The concrete block plant of concrete product manufacturer HB-Betoniteollisuus in Jyväskylä, in Finland, was closed on 9 November 2007 as no cement was available. The stoppage is the company’s fourth in week 45 of 2007.

According to HB-Betoniteollisuus, also other plants have held stoppages causing significant financial losses. If the situation is not remedied, a competing cement plant has to be built in Finland, HB-Betoniteollisuus’ Managing Director Eero Nieminen demands.
