Beninese President Boni Yayi will Monday in Massè, a district in the country’s south-eastern Plateau, lay the foundation stone for a 1.2Mta cement plant, sources close to the presidency said on Saturday.

The plant, to be built at an overall cost of FCFA130bn (about US$290m), will have a capacity to produce 1.2Mta, when completed.

Construction work on the plant is expected to start in two weeks

Once set up, the plant plans to supply the whole country, Nigeria and other neighbours.

It could even sell raw materials to other cement plants in the country, which will help significantly reduce the price of cement.
