Indonesian cement consumption fell nine per cent to 3.11Mt in September from August, the head of the industry association said Wednesday.

"As expected, the decline is attributable to the Ramadan fasting month," Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) chairman Urip Timuryono told Thomson Financial News.

Indonesia’s Muslim population typically reduces activities during the month-long fasting period that began in early September.

Timuryono said cement consumption in the main market Java also fell nine per cent vs August to 1.89Mt.

For the nine months to September, domestic cement consumption grew 6.8 percent to 25.21Mt, he said.
