10 October 2007

The Ash Grove Cement Company says it is adding a kiln that will help increase production by 70 per cent, enabling the company to produce 1.7Mt of cement a year.

A subcontractor is bringing its own workers for the job. Officials say that up to 600 workers will be used on the job and that some local workers will be hired. The work is to be complete in less than two years, with core construction taking up nine months.

The company says it expects the new kiln to be operating by August 2009. The company says there is growing demand for cement in regional markets in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.
