A cement factory costing RM1 billion will be built at Merapoh near here,
said Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakub. He said the state
government had approved a 400 hectare site for the cement factory.

The cement plant (and an iron ore mine) will be built jointly by the Pahang
state government and local companies. Adnan said Merapoh and its surrounding
areas have rich raw materials of quality to support the cement and iron ore
factories for over 50 years.

"Land clearing work for the cement factory has already started with
construction expected next year. The two factories are expected to be
completed between 18 and 24 months," he told reporters. The cement factory
will be only the second for Pahang after the one at Bukit Sagu, Kuantan and
will provide 500 jobs for the local people.
