Guyana’s Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds, recently got a first hand look at local cement production when he took time from his busy schedule to visit Barbados lone cement manufacturer, Arawak Cement Company Limited.

During the visit to the St. Lucy facility, Prime Minister Hinds met some of Arawak Cements management team, and was briefed on various topics. He also met-up with his long-time friend, Phillip Yeung, Arawak Cement’s operations manager. "I was in Barbados for the African Diaspora conference, which concluded early, which resulted in a day off for me, so I decided to use the time to visit some old friends, including Phil, who I worked with back in the 60’s, and to also carry out some research to trace my ancestry," Hinds said.

Acting general manager of the Checker Hall, St. Lucy-based plant, Rupert Greene, welcomed the Guyanese Prime Minister, noting that it was an honour to be paid a visit by such an influential individual. "It is a pleasure to have you visit us. We know you have a very busy agenda, and hope you enjoy your time with us. We also wish you luck in your research to trace your Barbadian ancestry, "Greene said.
