Russian BASEL to build cement plant
30 August 2007

The BASEL CEMENT company seeks to become the main supplier of cement to Olympic construction sites.

The company was founded in 2006 to manage Oleg Deripaska’s BASIC ELEMENT company’s cement business. The Serebryansky cement plant, controlled by BASEL CEMENT, won the ownership rights to the Otnozhnaya and Messazhaiskaya cement-containing areas in the Tuapse district of Krasnodar Territory. Their reserves are expected to run out no sooner than in a hundred years.

The company will build a cement plant nearby to make 4Mta of cement. In October, BASEL CEMENT will hold a tender to choose the project’s equipment provider and contractor. The plant will be located in the close proximity of Sochi, allowing the company to become the main cement supplier in the region.
