Cement output in Morocco rises by 18.5% in first two quarters
18 July 2007

Production in Morocco’s cement industry increased by 18.5% in the first half of 2007, compared to a 10.4% growth in the same period during 2006, MAP quoted the  organization of cement producers (APC) as saying on Monday (July 16th). The APC said major cement factories had decided to accelerate investment in the sector and increase production as current production capacities cannot fully meet the growing domestic demand for the product, the APC said.

The APC added that the cement shortage and rising prices will be alleviated with the opening of the Holcine cement factory in Settat. Morocco’s cement production capacity is currently 12.2Mta but with new investment projects it is expected to reach 24.2Mt by the end of 2010.
