28 June 2007

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday instructed the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Sarath Wijesinghe to urgently control the price of cement.

Sri Lanka has proclaimed cement as an essential commodity and the CAA has power to control the price of cement accordingly. However, recently the price of cement increased sharply in the market.

The President’s attention was also been paid to the steel market due to the complaints received of low quality steel products. President Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed the Chairman of the CAA to attend to the problem immediately to guarantee the quality of the products in the market.
