Lafarge invests EUR400,000 in Moldovan unit

Lafarge has invested EUR 400,000 to open a loading station for bulk cement in its Moldovan unit Lafarge Ciment, Lafarge Ciment said on Friday.  
 
The new facility has a capacity of 300tph or cement.  
 
With its latest investment,  Lafarge responds to Moldova’s growing construction materials market, Lafarge Ciment said in a statement.  
 
This investment is part of  Lafarge’s long-term development strategy in Moldova, it added. 
 
Ciment, situated in northeastern Moldova, produced 821,100t of cement last year, up by 30% from 2005, and covered 75% of domestic demand last year. The net profit of Ciment fell by 15.6% last year to 43 million lei. Sales rose to 619.4m lei from 355.7m lei in 2005.
