Belarus’ Economy Ministry sets single cement price for all retailers
08 June 2007

Belarus’ Economy Ministry has signed resolution #112 to set a single cement price for all retailers, the press service of the ministry said in a press release.

A 50-kilogram bag of ПЦ 400-Д20 cement will cost 14,950 Belarusian rubles (Br). The current cement price is 1.6-1.8 times as low as in Ukraine and 1.6-2.1 lower than Russian retail prices.

The ministry attributes the move to abuse of retailers, failure to meet the domestic demand and financial troubles of producers, who faced a 30% rise in energy prices in early 2007, but were allowed to raise their selling prices only 13%.

The profitability of cement sales made 4% in January-April 2007 [ranged from minus 0.5% to 6%], and profitability of exports was at 10%.
