Rugby Cement claims emissions are down by 80 per cent
25 April 2007

Rugby Cement have claimed today (Tuesday) that it has been able to reduce emissions of dust across the town by 80 per cent.

Bosses said they have done that thanks to the recent installation of the new £6.5m bag filter.

Cemex, who own the plant, has been criticised by campaigners and residents after recent dust clouds escaped from the site and covered nearby homes and cars.

Last year Cemex was taken to court and fined £400,000 for a large dust fall-out.

But now Rugby Cement believes it has tackled the issue by extrcating dust from the gases produced in the cement kiln.

Campaigners said they want to see further evidence before they welcome the news.
