Reduced Saudi cement production hits Bahrain construction
28 March 2007

A production problem that has halved the cement output of a Saudi factory in the eastern province could spell disaster for Bahrain’s construction industry, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) warned Tuesday.

The chamber in response urged a strategy which adopts increased cement imports from neighbouring countries and the establishment of cement factories in Bahrain.

The BCCI warned that in light of the acute cement shortage failure to take urgent and effective action would result in a crisis in the booming construction industry.

BCCI board member and chairman of the Building and Construction committee Samir Abdallah Nass said any delay in addressing the issue would have negative consequences on economic growth.
