Holcim Romania sees domestic cement market up 15 per cent in 2007
28 March 2007

Holcim Romania on Tuesday projected a 15% growth of the domestic cement market in 2007 and a similar rise in its own sales.

The company posted sales of 774 million lei (US$307m) in 2006 backed by a robust rise in construction activity in Romania ahead of the country’s EU accession.

"For this year we estimate a 15% increase of the cement market [...] due to infrastructure development projects and the increase in residential projects", the company said in a statement, adding that its own turnover would rise at a similar rate.

In 2006, the company invested 3.5 million euro in environment protection, 40% more than the EUR2.5m it had planned to allocate for the purpose. This year Holcim Romania will allocate about EUR2.8m to environment protection projects.

Holcim Romania invested EUR57m in 2006 in upgrading its production lines and improving environment protection at its plants.
