Ambujas to expand cement plant in Himachal

Gujarat Ambuja Cement Ltd (GACL) plans to double production at its lone cement plant in Himachal Pradesh. 
 
Officials of GACL say in the next two years the company plans spending Rs.7 billion in a phased manner at its nearly 20-year-old cement plant at Darlaghat in Solan district, some 50 km from here.  
 
"We plan to raise the capacity of this plant from two million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to four 4Mta," Rajiv Jain, general manager, GACL said. 
 
"We also plan to double the headcount at the plant to 2,000. The expansion process is likely to start in 2009 and when finished will raise Ambuja’s total production in the country to 16.5Mta," said Jain.
